Back in March a couple members of Audio Primate went to the HeadRoom at Metropolis Studios show put on by Audio Sanctuary in London, the HiFiMAN room was a highlight of the show and allowed entry into HiFiMAN’s HE-1000 International Photography Competition. I’m pleased to announce that our photo, Reality Sphere, took first prize, so in the not too distant future we’ll be getting in a HiFiMAN EF-6 amplifier. This amplifier was designed specifically to power the HiFiMAN HE-6, so it is a beast of an amplifier.
Thanks go to my buddy, Tom, for not grousing at me using his sexy head for the picture. Here is the winning picture:
HiFiMAN asked entrants to provide details about how the work was done and the story behind the work, here is what I said:
This image was taken at Headroom at Metropolis Studios, London 2017 using a Panasonic GX-7 and edited using Adobe Lightroom 5.7.1. For this image I used a wide open aperture and some post editing to give this the effect that the only thing that is real is the area in which the headphones live. I used a radial filter to create a halo of high definition and then tuned the rest of the image to look blurred, dark, unreal, cartoonish. The HE-1000 makes life real in this picture.
Here is the prize:
We’ll be trying to get the Susvara in for review to go with this amp, and to compare with the HE-6 at it’s best, an HE-6 modded by a good friend of mine that equals or beats any of HiFiMAN’s current offerings that I have heard (within reason, haven’t had environment to compare Shangri-La and haven’t heard Susvara yet).
We’ll make sure to compare it to the Questyle CMA600i, the Aune S6, and all the other big amps we have on hand. Stay tuned for more fun in the months to come.
