Unboxing: ALO Continental v5 Portable Tube Amplifier

First, I’d like to say thank you to ALO Audio and Headpie for running the Facebook give-away for the ALO Continental v5. I was surprised and happy when I won it.

The ALO Continental v5 is a tiny little amplifier. It’s only the size of a pack of cards, which I suppose I should have expected. It does pack some wallop, with the ability to output 325mW into 32Ω. In my experience, this is enough to drive an HD600, and I’ll certainly be testing that. A brief listen with the Unique Melody Miracle v2 with the Aune M1S as the source revealed a vibrant, spacious sound on first impression. I think I’m going to enjoy this.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.

The assortment of accessories is nice. It comes with: a sturdy embossed leather case, customary branded bands a sturdy USB micro cable, a pouch for carrying the player, an USA 2.1 amp charger (good), and a manual. The box is quite attractive and the opening experience was nice. I especially liked the little green ribbon.

One of the joys of tubes is that fireside glow. I fully intend to take some night-time pictures for the later review to see just how bright we can show that ember glowing.

Time to take a listen. Massive Attack it is.
